Preston and Ronnee met the summer of 8th grade. They instantly became great friends and found each other head over heels in love during the middle of their Sophomore year of high school. They knew it was a forever kind of deal instantly. They graduated high school together, went to college together, experienced life’s hardships together, supported each other with their career choices as a Registered Nurse and a Firefighter, and now they are onto the next milestone of sealing the deal with a wedding.

For Ronnee’s 24th birthday in March, Preston picked her up from a long shift at the hospital to take her to their favorite place, Lake Tahoe, for her birthday weekend. He booked a room at a small hotel they usually stay at and little did she know, her dad had set up the hotel room for their arrival. Preston opened the door for her to the hotel and she dropped everything and instantly started crying as this was a moment she had dreamt of since she was 16 years old. The room had candles lit everywhere and on the bed in rose petals, it read: “Will You Marry Me?” Preston dropped to one knee with a stunning oval diamond and asked if Ronnee would marry him.  She said, “It all felt like a complete dream” and it took her a little while to figure out that it was real. Ronnee Said, “With no hesitation, I said yes. It was the best moment of my life.”

The Soon to be Bride also told us, “Our adventure as husband and wife begins October 23rd, 2015. We decided on a fall wedding at Pageo Lavender Farms in Turlock. Our style is simple, organic, free-spirited, and romantic. We chose a neutral color palette with lots of greenery included. We want it to be casual and fun as our personalities are very easy-going! We cannot wait until October!”

Smetia Says, “The most important thing during the planning process for me was to stay organized and have fun. Wine and Roses does such an amazing job. We went to their wedding show and we’re able to get most of our vendors picked out in one day. Pati (our coordinator from Wine and Roses) was always available and open to all of my ideas. The moment we stepped onto their grounds we knew we wanted to get married there.”

Photographer Jody Atkinson captured all the beautiful bold colors wonderfully. Smetia also said “The biggest challenge was trying to fuse both cultures. We wanted to be able to express both cultures and traditions equally. With that being said, a lot of the decisions we made about what to wear and eat were based off of that. We wanted a colorful wedding that was fun to look at but also memorable.”

Featured Wedding ~ Sovauhna & David

Sovauhna & David Word

 Married September 13, 2014

In early 2013, David got together with some of his friends and family and designed a parade float that would forever change his life. David, a lineman living and working in Southern California, decided he wanted to surprise his girlfriend with an unforgettable wedding proposal. On July 4, 2013, Sovauhna attended the City of Modesto’s annual 4th of July Parade with her family. As they sat with onlookers cheering on locally built floats, clowns, and marching bands, her family’s anticipation grew, and rolling down the street came a hand-made float inspired by Tiffany & Co. and David’s career as a lineman. It was on that float that David proposed to Sovauhna in front of hundreds of spectators.

IMG_5876Shortly after that, the date was set. The couple wanted to plan their wedding close to Modesto where they both graduated and both of their families lived. With David living in Southern California, Sovauhna would have to take on most of the planning process while she eagerly waited for David to move back home.

“When David’s one request in the wedding was to wear boots, I decided to go with the rustic country theme and grant his one wedding wish since, if you know David then you know that he lives in his boots,” Sovauhna explains. With this theme, she also decided the entire wedding party should wear boots, and she would look for a classic and soft design of lace for her gown. “When I found my dress at Mira Bridal Couture, I knew it was the dress on the first day of looking.”

IMG_7330The bridal party dresses, floral arrangements, and decor included various shades of ivory, beige, soft pinks, and lace, continuing her natural yet country chic theme. And even though September 13, 2014, hit triple-digit heat, the sunset and cooler evening arrived just in time for their first dance and initiated their perfect reception.

Entertaining the idea of David’s career, the couple decided to design a cake topper to represent power poles. Encompassing the lively theme of the dessert table, Sovauhna decided to include cupcakes themed after some of their favorites such as the Giants baseball team and Motorcross.
