Monumental Matrimony

The Century, located in downtown Modesto, will be hosting wedding ceremonies from 10:00am until 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 14th, 2018. Providing each couple a 45 minute slot to exchange vows and enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne (or sparkling cider) with their guests. The Century will also provide the officiant to make the vows official and provide a photographer to document this special day for each set of love birds. A private online gallery of your wedding photos will be provided within 48 hours.

The January 2017 Issue of Bridal Couture Magazine is Extra Special!

We are thrilled to announce our cover model for our Spring 2017 issue will be newly married Victoria Popoff (now Hill). Victoria, a lifelong resident of Modesto, is business owner, philanthropist, and leader in our community.  Since she was young she began volunteering at retirement hospitals, working as a counselor at group homes, teaching children to swim and inspiring our community to love fitness. Victoria is the founder and owner of Studio V Pilates & Fitness in Modesto, CA and recently celebrated her fifth year in business. She is active with Women’s Education & Leadership League in educating the community with unifying opportunities in emotional, financial and physical wellness, along with other female powerhouses and continues to lead with love. Today we celebrate with her as we enthusiastically share her marriage to Devin Hill on the cover and featured in our next issue available January 2017!Victoria and Devin Hill

We have a special place in our heart for Victoria. She was one of the first models for Bridal Couture Magazine in 2010 and has continued to support BCM not only through the publication and support of local vendors but has supported and modeled for UNVEILED~BCM’s annual fashion show and fundraiser.

We can’t wait to share the details of their October 4, 2016 creative and rustic-chic affair.  We will take you behind-the-scenes at their organic-inspired wedding ceremony surrounded by close family, along with their destination celebration full of A-list vendors from home (duh.), sandy beaches, neutral palettes, personal touches, and envy-worthy designer duds by Watters, Erica Koesler, and more (swoon…).

In our search to plan the ultimate bridal shower, we searched high and low, and asked everyone we know for the best wedding and bridal shower games. Here’s Bridal Couture Magazines Top 10!

1.) Read His Mind

Before the couple become one on their wedding day, test their knowledge of each other to find out if they really are ‘of the same mind.’ A week or two before the shower, ask the groom twenty revealing questions about himself and his relationship (if planning a couple’s wedding shower, give the bride her own set of twenty questions to answer), and film the groom answering each question.

2.) Bangle Shakedown

Looking for a fun game to keep guests as engaged as the bride-to-be? Here you have it. Before the party, come up with a short list of overused wedding-related words or exclamations (e.g. bride, wedding, dress, “Aww!”) to forbid. As each guest arrives, give her a charm bracelet with a little note listing the forbidden words and the following rules: if someone hears another person saying a word on the list at any time during the shower, she gets to take the rule-breaker’s bracelet. At the end of the party, the person with the most bracelets gets a prize—plus the chic set of bracelets on her arm!

3.) Newspaper Wedding Dress

This is a fun spin-off of the classic game, Toilet Paper Wedding Dress. Assign each team a section of the wedding dress (e.g. sleeve, bodice, train, veil, skirt) Then, dress the bride in all the fabulously inventive pieces and have her pose for a very humorous photo-op.

4.) Take Yarn, Tell a Yarn

One of the best icebreakers around involves nothing more than a ball of ribbon or yarn. As your guests arrive, give them the ball of ribbon and scissors and instruct them to cut off as much as they think they’ll need—and remain mum when they inevitably ask, “Need for what?” As soon as everyone is situated—absentmindedly playing with their lengths of ribbon—go around the room and have each person talk about himself or herself for as long as it takes to wrap the piece of yarn around a finger. The longer the string, the longer they talk—and the more you get to know your guests!

5.) Memory Lane Mysteries

A blank note card along with a request to write down his or her favorite memory of the bride, groom or the couple. When they arrive, have your guests drop their memories into a card box. At the shower, read each memory out loud and ask the bride and/or groom to guess which guest wrote it. From childhood memories to milestone moments, each card reflects the personal bond that each guest has with the couple. And, at the end of the day, the bride has a stack of personal keepsakes to cherish always.

6.) Wedding Ring Dec-a-Cake

Double the fun at your wedding shower with a tasty twist on tradition. You may have heard of the age-old bake-the-ring-in-a-cake trick: the hostess takes a toy ring or wedding trinket and bakes it right into a cake; at the shower, each guest takes a slice and whoever gets the ring is the next in line to marry her dearly beloved.

7.) Pass the Presents

Who says the bride and groom should get all of the gifts? With this fast-paced, interactive game, everyone has a shot! Before the shower, wrap two or three gifts in decorative wrapping paper. When it’s game time, have everyone sit in a circle. Give each gift to a random person in the circle—or for the young and spry, put the gifts in the center and have all guests grab for one on the count of three.

8.) Couple’s Roast

Here’s a great one for a couple’s wedding shower (though you can always change it up a bit for a bridal shower). First, cut paper into strips and divide into two equal piles. For the strips in one pile, you’ll write an emotion for the groom and an emotion for the bride. For example, “Jane is mad. John is worried,” “Jane is highly amused. John is bored silly,” or “Jane is scared. John is excited.” Then, write different scenarios on the strips in the other pile. For example, “John tells Jane he can’t go to the mall with her because he made plans to watch the game with the boys,” “John tells Jane he traded in the coupe for a minivan,” or “Jane tells John her mother is coming to visit for three months.” Then, have guests break out into teams of two. Each picks a strip from a different pile, puts them together and acts out the scenario with the assigned emotions—all while trying to mimic the couple’s mannerisms and quirky tics! Give the bride and groom scorecards—0 to 10—to rate each performance. The highest scoring duo wins a prize!

9.) Two Truths and a Lie

This is a great icebreaker for guests who are just getting to know each other. Each guest tells the group three experiences he or she has had with the bride or groom; two are true, one is a lie. Guests then guess which one they think is a lie. Often, the most unbelievable stories are the truth!

10.) Pin the Ring on the Groom

This game can be tailored to fit the mood of any bridal shower. Start with a poster-sized picture of the groom. For a traditional shower, give each guest a faux wedding ring. For a more risqué lingerie shower, give each guest a pair of ladies’ lacy underwear. Blindfold your guests in turn and give each a pushpin and a ring or a pair of underwear. For the ring, whoever pins it closest to his finger, wins. As for the cheeky lingerie, place hooks in strategic places on the poster; whoever throws the underwear on the craziest spot, wins—plus, the bride gets to add the lacy confections to her collection!

Tips for Choosing Mix & Match Bridesmaids Dresses

Some brides prefer everything to match, and some brides may prefer something different. Something different such as Mix & Match. While bridesmaids dresses can be expensive, a fun way to less the cost is to allow a mix and match look that will let your bridesmaids pick a gown, in your choice of color palate, in their price range. However, there are certain things to remember so that you don’t have a Mix & Match go badly.

Choosing contrasting dresses is also a great way to cater for the different shapes, styles and coloring of your wedding party. It lets you add more personal style to your wedding party. But mix and match dresses are not always an easy thing to pull off. You have to come up with a selection of colors, tones, and fabrics, but with that you will also be providing choices for your bridesmaids which could lead to conflict and a whole lot of opinions.

Once you get past all the decisions, your wedding photo will show a perfectly put together wedding party that will be different from your classic matchy-matchy styled bride.

Listed below are a few tips to remember while planning a Mix & Match Success!

-Hue. Having your girls go out and select 5 separate dresses in the color pink, is setting you up to have 5 girls show up in 5 different color pinks. If you are wanting a certain color dress, there are a lot of designer dresses that provide the same color dress in multiple different styles. That will be helpful in a sense that you won’t have to worry about one girl in a darker pink dress next to a lighter one.

-Don’t be too care free. Create a Pinterest board or send your bridesmaids photos of what you like. Explain the look you are going for, tell them what colors and textures you envision. A black dress can go from elegant to gothic at the snap of a finger.

-Stay in touch. Say you have bridesmaids that all live in different places. If you aren’t able to do a group shopping trip and are wanting your girls in three different colors make sure they are in touch with each other so that your colors will be evenly spread out. Create a group text! Makes it easy to send photos for the wedding party to see!

-Sparkle or Lace? Don’t be afraid! You’ll make a very fashion forward statement by playing with these materials, who doesn’t love some great texture?
