Featured Wedding~Victoria Popoff & Devin Hill

Married October 4, 2016

Victoria and Devin first met when they both worked at Brenda Athletic Club. Devin was a certified personal trainer, and Victoria was the group exercise director and Pilates instructor. With many mutual friends, their paths crossed on multiple occasions. Victoria describes their attraction as irresistible:

“Our relationship is like a magnet, a force we had no choice over.” During their first date, they both knew it was different, and the topic of marriage didn’t scare either of them. Their love progressed quickly, and they announced their engagement just a few months after their first date.

“We wanted to give our guests undivided attention in each setting. At our family-only wedding, we wanted to be respectful of our parents’ conservative and religious backgrounds,” explained Victoria.

“With under 30 guests, it made for a small, intimate day that gave us quality time with each family member as we had hoped for.”

The couple knew they wanted a romantic wedding and reception on the beach but also knew everyone they were inviting could not travel in such a short time frame, so they planned three separate wedding events. The first was a  private ceremony and brunch on her parents’ property, which would include family only.

Long wooden benches created the aisle Victoria’s father escorted her down. She carried a delicate bouquet of dried lavender which paired nicely with her soft off-the-shoulder Ruca Lace gown by Watters that she found at Mira Bridal Couture. In a navy blue Hugo Boss suit, Devin watched every step she took. Victoria’s adopted brother, Alex, carried a hand-built Lego ring holder with Princess Leah and Hans Solo figurines inspired by Devin’s love for Star Wars.

After their “I do’s”, the couple escorted family to a farm table draped in natural elements, moss, succulents, place cards held by natural Wood rose flowers, and a collection of Blue Spode China, a third generation family heirloom. Favors included individual bags filled with Clayton’s Coffee and custom mugs personalized by West Coast Promotions.

After brunch, the family enjoyed outdoor games, including life-size Jenga, Connect Four and Cornhole.

“Our dream was to be married on the beach, with our closest friends,

so we planned our destination wedding and celebration with 28 of our closest

friends a week after our family wedding.”

Tucked between two scenic bluffs overlooking the Sea of Cortez, Victoria’s uncle escorted her down the stairs of the Esperanza Resort to the private beach where Devin stood. Victoria chose to keep her wedding-day look uncomplicated, unfussy, and incredibly effortless in a plunging back ivory crepe gown by Willowby Watters that she found at her long-time friend Mira’s bridal salon in downtown Modesto.

Reflecting the setting, Victoria wanted her hair timeless, so her hair stylist Noel created soft mermaid waves that draped around her shoulders and she carried an organic cascading bouquet of greenery and ivory roses. The couple wrote their own vows and the ceremony was officiated by Victoria’s childhood Australian pen-pal Lisa, who flew in just for the occasion.

Instead of including bridesmaids and groomsmen, the couple decided to ask their guests to dress in a neutral palette, which included ivory, beige, and gray. With the sunset and the ocean views establishing an atmosphere of earthly elegance, they decided to mirror this theme in their decor for the cliff side reception on the resort’s Seaside Terrace.

A family-style rustic wooden table created a warm and intimate dinner. Personalized menus and monogrammed linens were just a few of the personal touches added to their decor. Award-winning musician from the Central Valley, Neil Buettner played during dinner. Afterward, guests enjoyed the fresh aromatic cigars rolled on the spot and danced under the stars. The evening ended when Victoria surprised Devin with a stunning fireworks display over the high tide of the ocean.

Several weeks later, the newly married couple hosted a wedding celebration on the Vine Arbor of Galletto Ristorante. Friends enjoyed hand-passed Hors d’ Oeuvres, music by The Nines, and three-layer pleated buttercream cake.

We were thrilled to select Victoria as the cover for this issue. Congratulations, Victoria and Devin Hill!

Featured Wedding~Hazel & Alan Chuop

Married September 24, 2016

Hazel and Alan’s ceremony was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Modesto, California, and the reception followed at The Century in Downtown Modesto. As soon as Hazel saw the venue, she knew that it would match the theme that she had in mind: Rustic Romance.
Putting her own flair on the theme, Hazel included succulents into her bouquet of ivory and pink roses and hydrangeas as well as in the men’s boutonnières. Her bridesmaids were dressed in sea foam green chiffon, which offset the bride’s stunning wedding gown: a tulle ballgown with a slight cap sleeve, beaded illusion back and a gorgeous cathedral-length veil.

At the reception, the room was decorated with tall, gold candelabras with ivory hydrangeas and pink roses. The couple was thrilled with their beautiful ceremony and reception and knew that because they had kept faith in one another and in God, they were truly blessed.

Featured Wedding~Emilie & Michael Sorensen

Married October 22, 2016

“Life was like a box of chocolates.” ~ Forest Gump

Destiny has a way of making itself apparent. When Emilie and Michael, watching Forrest Gump on their first date, discovered they shared the same favorite movie , they knew they were destined to be together.

Seven months into their eight-month engagement, Emilie had gotten a hefty chunk of the wedding planning out of the way and was surprised to find that she was enjoying herself! Having spent her time in the wedding industry modeling wedding gowns for Mira Bridal Couture, working for The Platinum Photo Booth and Sounds in Motion DJ, Emilie had the process down and was able to book the vendors she and Michael wanted with little stress. Therefore Emilie and her family embarked on the DIY projects and created beautiful and meaningful wedding favors which included caramel apples with a tag saying “He picked her. She picked him.” Tasty and simple.

Emilie and Michael wanted to keep their wedding unique, simple, and classic, and went with a vintage-glam theme. Colors of ivory, gold, and black kept it classic while golden feathers and items inspired by the film Forrest Gump helped to tie the theme in with their favorite movie and first date. Emilie arranged the seating chart, and the guest book, which brought her vintage-glam Forrest Gump theme together perfectly, placing pictures of her and Michael in an antique photo holder with quotes from their beloved movie. Emilie found her beautiful wedding gown at Mira Bridal Couture, an a-line creation with beaded lace, a fitted bodice, and voluminous tulle skirt which captured the theme of her wedding with its vintage appeal and fit. Their gorgeous wedding bands from Ciccarelli Jewelers were stunning and flawless. Everything was coming together seamlessly, just as Michael and Emilie had.

On the evening of October 22nd, with Sounds in Motion playing their music, the couple danced their first dance as husband and wife to “Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison, a song that represented love, spirituality and destiny for the newlyweds. With an old vintage suitcase, a box of chocolates, and golden feathers, Emilie and Michael included their favorite quote from their favorite movie…
“I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or it we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze. But I think maybe it’s both, maybe both is happening at the same time.” For Emilie and Michael Sorensen, their sweet life together was just beginning.

Featured Wedding~Melissa & Brent Mendoza

Married October 1, 2016

After becoming best friends in high school, Melissa and Brent kept their friendship strong until they were both in college; it was then they both decided that they wanted something more. For a time Melissa studied abroad in Spain, but she could only think about Brent and as soon as she was back in the States, they made the choice to never be apart again. Four years later, the couple was engaged! Then the real work started.

Melissa and Brent spent their two-year engagement intensely brainstorming and planning their wedding. Neither bride nor groom really knew what they wanted their ceremony to consist of; they even considered the idea of a destination wedding or elopement. But after a weekend getaway in Monterey, the couple fell in love with the gorgeous Clement in Monterey Ca. and knew that was where they wanted to have their wedding. They booked the venue a year in advance and with that decision out of the way, everything seemed to start falling into place. The bride to be did hit a few challenges along the way, such as not being able to visit the venue when needed and trying to manage her vendors from so far away. But as the event drew closer things worked themselves out, allowing Melissa more time to focus her attention on the many details of the ceremony ensuring this most special part of their day went as planned.

The couple booked the reception at Wave Street Studios in Monterey, confident that the area would be a perfect complement to the couple’s unique and quirky styles.

Melissa booked her first bridal appointment at Mira Bridal Couture. Mira was thrilled. They had become friends while participating in the Modesto Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program together.  Finding her gown was easy. A gorgeous design by Maggie Sottero; a slim lace A-line complete with plunging illusion neckline, delicate lace sleeves, and illusion keyhole back. Buttons from the top of the neckline to the end of the extended illusion train gave the elegant garment an added touch. The bridal consultants at Mira Bridal Couture helped her find the bridesmaids dresses too. She selected a soft flowing floor length Watters gown in a subdued latte.

With cascading orchids and succulents, the reception was a sight to behold! A neutral palette accented with sea foam green and latte colors complimented the stunning view from the venue. Ivory flowers with greenery adorned every available corner, tying in the natural aspect of their wedding. Genuine crystals lined the wedding archway, illuminating the bride and her groom.

As the reception came to a close the couple gave a fun toast, thanking all who had come to celebrate their union. Their magical wedding had exceeded their expectations and with beautiful photos to remind them, Mr. and Mrs. Mendoza would remember their night for the rest of their lives.

Featured Wedding~Shelby & Tevin Jones

Lavender & Lace

Shelby & Tevin Jones

Married June 4, 2016Shelby+Tevin+Bogdan+Condor077

In the throes of high school, Shelby and Tevin had no idea they were sharing classes with the love of their life. A chance encounter gave way to fate as they evolved from peers to lovers and began planning their wedding.

Giving themselves ample time, Shelby and Tevin began the process a year and a month in advance and accepted help from family and friends where they felt it was needed. New to wedding planning, Shelby relied heavily on the Knot and her wedding coordinator, Sonia, to keep herself on track. The couple knew that they wanted to hold their ceremony close to home and outdoors, and when Shelby found Pageo Lavender Farm, she fell head over heels in love with her venue. Shelby thought it would be perfect and would help capture the theme of her Lavender & Lace wedding. Pinterest helped Shelby to decide on bridal party colors of navy and grey that would enhance the exquisite beauty of the Pageo Lavender Farm and bring a charming tone to the overall event. Shelby+Tevin+Bogdan+Condor048

Although the planning process was long, Shelby and Tevin are glad they took the extra time and were not stressed out by or fed up with what should be the happiest day of any couple’s life. As Shelby was helped into the gorgeous lace gown she had found at Mira Bridal Couture, she thought back to her high school days, amazed and awed at how her life had played out. Their wedding was one for the books, the ceremony unfolding without incident, and their day was just as special as Tevin and Shelby are to each other.Shelby+Tevin+Bogdan+Condor103

Featured Wedding ~ Ann-Marie & Ron Mattis

Star-Crossed Love of a Lifetime

Ann-Marie & Ron Mattis
Married June 11, 2016Ann-Marie Ron Mattis Plain Jane Photography (108)

Being pelted with a snowball is usually not the way the average person meets and falls in love, but Ann-Marie and Ron Mattis were star-crossed lovers, and their love would be nothing short of extraordinary.

Ann-Marie met Ron in an Irish Pub in San Francisco, her heart thumping as she saw him walk through the door. He was tall, handsome, and had a smile that stretched from ear to ear. Sitting down next to her, they talked all night, laughing hysterically and enjoying one another’s company. When Ann-Marie had to depart, they promised to keep in touch. She never knew that Ron would be entwined in her heart for life. Ann-Marie Ron Mattis Plain Jane Photography (97)
Ron and Ann-Marie had crossed paths many times in their lives. Surprisingly, Ron and Ann-Marie found out that they had been neighbors in Cape Cod, MA, as children. Later on in life, both worked the same profession in the city and had even shared 40 work accounts together. Co-workers would constantly tell them that they should meet. But fate has a funny way with timing. Ann-Marie Ron Mattis Plain Jane Photography (71)
As Ann-Marie and Ron grew more serious in their relationship, Ann-Marie’s future changed right before her eyes, and her love for Ron grew every day. They moved in together after 4 months of being in a relationship, neither having lived with a significant other before in their lives. They both were surprised at how easy it was! When Ron finally asked for Ann-Marie’s hand in marriage, she was shocked. She never knew that she could love someone as much as the man kneeling down before her, promising to love her forever as she already did him. Ann-Marie happily accepted and was overjoyed to know that she would soon marry her best friend.

Planning a wedding was more than difficult for the couple, several disasters adding stress and disappointment to the process. However, their photographer, Sara Malough was a bright and shining light who captured the intense and beautiful love between the two. Her amazing work kept Ann-Marie happy and less stressed, and with some help from Boheme Tipi Events, Ron and Ann-Marie were able to keep their focus on what was truly important: the deep and true love they had for one another. Keeping their love strong, they were able to overcome their difficulties and produce their classical and vintage wedding.Ann-Marie Ron Mattis Plain Jane Photography (121) June 11th, 2016: the wedding day. Two star-crossed lovers had finally become aligned. As their close friend officiated, the two stared into each other’s eyes, everything else falling away. The rabbi read their vows, letters that Ron and Ann-Marie had written to him explaining why they loved one another. Ann-Marie could never imagine herself without Ron, her prince, her savior; she knew as they danced their first dance that she had loved him from the start and their love would grow stronger every day. Featured Wedding~Mari & Niniv Tamimi

Married April 16, 2016Mari___Ninev_wedding-0021

A Floral Tradition

“10-9-8-7…” Mari smiled from ear to ear as she said yes to Niniv Tamimi, the love of her life and now soon-to-be husband. Niniv had dropped down to one knee on Dec 31st, 2014, 10 seconds before the big ball drop in Chicago, Illinios. Mari knew, as he slipped the ring on her finger, he had always been the one and now would finally be able to make it official.Mari___Ninev_wedding-0018

Mari and Niniv had met at a professional mixer hosted by Niniv himself. Used to speaking his own engineer language, he was surprised and impressed when Mari understood him and was able to relate to him on the same level. Mari, sensing that Niniv was interested, rushed away, not bothering to give him the chance to ask for her number. Taking matters into his own hands, Niniv pursued her, and with the aid of a mutual friend was able to secure her number and ask her to dinner. “I’m going to marry that girl,” Niniv had told his friend. The couple was inseparable from that fateful moment on.

Finding most of what they needed in Bridal Couture Magazine and other wedding resources, Mari and Niniv booked their vendors right away, and with the help of Mari’s wedding planning binder, the bride was able to check off her ceremony to-do list. The bride’s gorgeous ring was designed and selected from Yonan’s Jewelers, a stunning white diamond stone wedding band matching it perfectly. The groom sported the bride’s masculine counterpart: white gold comfort fit men’s band with a flat matte finish. Their event coordinator, Ailin Yadegarian, helped the couple create their dream event, taking the time to communicate and give special attention to each detail. With family in Modesto and Turlock, Mari chose her home church in Turlock, happy that family would not have to travel very far to attend.Mari___Ninev_wedding-0005Mari___Ninev_wedding-0006

With an intense love for floral design, Mari enlisted Yonan’s Floral to create her perfect arrangements. Centerpieces of white hydrangeas, ivory vendela roses, and peach garden spray roses were placed on every table, cradled in gold mercury bowls. Romantic floating candles lined the tops of the arrangements, suspended atop the beautiful foliage. Mari’s wedding colors of champagne and gold, bridesmaids in flowing, neutral toned chiffon gowns courtesy of Watters design all blended together and were accented with a pop of coral that complemented the soft candlelight and bathed the wedding party in a classically romantic glow. Guests and loved ones watched Mr. and Mrs. Tamimi as they bloomed before their very eyes.Mari___Ninev_wedding-0025
